Figures in a robe emphasize both the form underneath a cloth and how the fabric drapes around a bare body.
Clothing can be a contour, a protective cover, or a foreign body. It can accentuate the body form or offer a hiding place.
When building a robed figure, forms overlap. A new shape emerges from two different materials - creating the unity of form and shell.
Transparency of the material, the underlying hint of body contour, the imprint that cloth might leave in the flesh, the forms that are lying underneath and hidden.
This is not only sculpturally interesting for me, it also symbolizes the vulnerability and the complexity of a person.
